Panic at the Disco are Copying the Killers, and I Have Proof

When will people call them out on this already? It's rediculous.

Here are the Killers in early 2005, in the Mr. Brightside video that defined their style at that time. Clean, glam, with a lot of eyeliner:

Panic! at the Disco popped out of nowhere later in the year looking like this. Hmm, look familiar?:

Oh well alright, you'll say "lay off, that's just one time! It could have been a coincidence!" Very fair point, indeed. But- hold on! What is this? The Killers changed their style quite a bit with Sam's Town in mid-2006. Gone was the eyeliner, replaced by rugged facial hair, vests- western cowboy style, basically. No one, I repeat NO ONE looked like this at the time. You can check if you don't believe.

Well that's good, now there won't be any similarities with P!ATD anymore and all will be forgiven, right? WRONG! Those pesky kids came out late 2007 looking like this:

W.T.F.

I think even the most avid Panic fan can admit that this is very strange. I won't say anything about my opinion of PATD's music, because well let's just not go there. But COME ON... can't they have their own goddamn style? Is it that hard to be a little original? Don't they realize how pathetic this makes them look? I don't understand. They probably have a million stylists at their disposal. Use them! Tell them to go a different direction! The Killers don't even have a stylist and they look way better, AND original. PATD: get your own style, and maybe then I will have some respect for you.

frist let me say that i respect both bands for what they have done for a new wave of rock music...ok now to their style-- at first glance u might think, "dang panic does not have a mind of their own"..but neither did the killers. these looks aren't stamped by the killers so dont kid yourself. the eyeliner thing? take a look at david bowie from the eighties and you'll understand what paved the way for guyliner. what about both bands wearing oldtimey costumes or dressing like they are going to a school dance? take a look at freddie mercury-he's def full of cleam, glam, style and he rocked eyeliner as well. what about the more natural, grungy look? take a look at the early years of the rolling stones cause they seem to fancy western looking button ups and vests...just like how older rock music influences bands now, their styles influenced them as well..this isnt a killers/panic thing..its just that a change in muscical direction can influence clothing. if you are gonna play entertaining/fun music, why not embrace it and perform with an elaborate and fun appearance? if they wanna play simple, personal, chill music, why not dress more naturally? panic wasnt copying the killers cause these styles hit the music world way before they were even born. u can only point out that these are two different bands with the same musical influences. and in the end, if u still care about who's copying who? i say, who the hell cares, its all about the music anyways.

Well.. i really dont know the killers, but i kile them, and i know PATD way better and i havent noticed your point, or i havent heard anybody saying that, so maybe they look alike, but i dont really think that PATD is like... "omg lets check out how the killers are looking right know so we can copy them"... and the firs proof that you have i deffenetly think that panic dressed up like that because their album...,have you see it? or listen to it? is very in that old-style direction, and they dont go out dress up like that, its only for photoshoots and concerts cause their album. And then i agree with the person above me, its all about a music influence in the whole world. And i dont see almost anything in the second proff that can makes me doubt cause, Patd only have jeans shirts and waistcoats...you how many people are using waistcoast today? i even have one! so.. i dont know its my opinion.

Someone has WAY too much time on their hands.

Yes, someone does have wayyyyy too much time on their hands. And anyway...the Killers didn't set the trend, so I guess we can say they are copycats...right?

...who cares?

I don't really see how they look the same in the first one. The Killers decided to wear eyeliner. A hell of a lot of guys wear eyeliner. but you just decide to go "OMGZ TEHY COPIED MY KILLERZ" because team Panic! is bigger than team Killers in some poll? And Panic! doesn't always wear the vests, and so what, they got beards? Thats what happens when guys don't wanna shave. Do more research next time, hun, seeming as though you have so much time on your hands to make this shit up.

well, that was a complete waste of time. you seriously have way to much time on your hands, and you dont understand anything. at all.

LOL, maybe I do have too much time on my hands, seeing as this is winter break, but honestly I've noticed this trend for a long time now. I completely agree that style doesn't matter compared to the quality of music. And I know the Killers didn't invent these styles, but the point is that they were one of the only ones dressing like that when Mr. Brightside came out and they were certainly the only ones with more facial hair and old western clothes when Sam's Town came out. If you want proof, just see how many people made fun of the Killers for dressing like "cowboys" and for growing mustaches. Critics would not make fun of them if everyone else dressed like that. But today, suddenly every other musician has facial hair. So when I noticed how blatantly P!ATD's style has been transforming in the same way as the Killers I had to call them out on it. No one is making a big deal out of it now, but when the Killers did it first everyone went berserk. I'm just spreading the criticism, keeping things fair, that's all! ;]

p.s. if you want to see the similarity of earlier Killers and P!ATD, go on Youtube and watch the "Mr. Brightside" video, and then the "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" video. I know they're nowhere near identical, but with the costumes, makeup, and everything- compared to other videos at the time- well it speaks for itself...
